CBD Oil: What to Look for When Buying This In-Demand Product

In the past couple of years, consumers continue to clamor for CBD oil products as more and more of its benefits have been explored. While some may say that most of these people are just jumping on the bandwagon, we say otherwise. We believe that consumers are finally given a better, more natural option when it comes to wellness. And that’s something more than a trend.

But just like any smart purchase, it’s crucial to know more about Cannabidiol or CBD before you acquire it. Here are some of the essential things to look out for when buying your first or your next CBD oil.

1. Find out the source.

Notice how some people could be so disquisitive when it comes to the origin of their wine or the beans used in their coffee? Apply this same curiosity and critical thinking with CBD oil. Just because something like CBD comes from a plant doesn’t make it instantly perfect.CBD manufacturers can source hemp from many different areas throughout the United States and beyond. But products produced using hemp that is grown overseas may mean they are not following any state or federal testing.

Find out where the CBD product is grown to be sure all agricultural guidelines for that area are being followed and that the manufacturer is following the FDA’s standards for good manufacturing practices, so you know that you are getting a product that is actually safe and legal.

Along with where the hemp was grown, know if best cultivation practices are being followed, like maintaining the right pH balance in the soil and refraining from using pesticides, GMOs, and other synthetic practices.

2. Check the ingredients.

In case we need to be reminded: Anything and everything ingested or applied to the skin must be thoroughly checked, and CBD is no exception.

Expect transparency when it comes to CBD ingredients. There shouldn’t be any artificial ingredients, fillers, and synthetic cannabinoids. Instead, there should only be natural and organic content. Moreover, it’s worth knowing that for a CBD oil to be legal, it should only contain a specific amount of THC, no more than 0.3%. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is responsible for causing any psychoactive effects on the body, that’s why it’s important for a CBD oil to be within legal standards.

3. Find out the Type of CBD Oil.

CBD oil comes in different types of products, including tinctures and topicals. Each one contains a specific concentration of CBD and other cannabinoids and terpenes in the hemp plant. Here are the types you need to know:

Full Spectrum CBD

A whole-plant hemp extract includes terpenes and other hemp plant compounds. It also contains trace amounts of THC (0.3% or less) and other cannabinoids.

Broad Spectrum

This contains a similar full spectrum of cannabinoids, with terpenes, and natural compounds, but the THC is undetectable.

CBD Isolate

This extract is made up of pure 99.9% CBD without containing any of the other compounds in the hemp plant and has 0% THC.

4. Beware of Big Claims.

There have been numerous studies that discuss the health benefits of CBD products. However, FDA monitors and regulates claims of medical efficacy related to any unapproved substance, so claims in treating diseases should be considered a red flag. Choose only brands that operate with integrity and compliance.

5. Look for Third-Party Lab Testing.

You’ll know a lot about the credibility of a product by the result of its third-party lab testing—or simply the fact that they have undergone one! Providing an unbiased and neutral source of information, third-party lab testing benefits both the consumer and the company. The consumer can feel transparency, while at the same time, the company can take pride in its proven high quality.

If a CBD product has been tested, you should be able to find the lab reports readily available on the company’s website. If you cannot find any available results, it might mean that the manufacturer may not have had a third-party lab testing or the results they received were unfavorable. With no certificate of analysis, there is no way to confirm what is in a product or if it is safe to consume and use in the first place. To be on the safe side, opt for brands that openly share their lab test results.
