What Is a CBD Certificate Analysis (and Why Should I Care?)

What Is a CBD Certificate Analysis (and Why Should I Care?)

“Open your mouth, and close your eyes!” How well do you have to trust someone to follow that command? Would you risk the odds if that request was made by somebody you haven’t met before? What you put into your body shouldn’t be a blind leap of faith.

Cannabidiol (CBD) products are everywhere, from CBD creams to CBD oils to CBD drog treats. It can be overwhelming. How can you really know what you’re getting? Without FDA approval, is there a way to be sure these hemp products are really what they claim to be?

Don’t Trust the Label on Your CBD Products

Pretty labels occasionally dress up petty products. In the CBD industry, it is not uncommon for there to be a discrepancy between what is listed on the label and what is actually found within the product. In a sampling study done by the FDA for CBD products, of the CBD products that listed a specific amount of CBD, only 45% of them contained amounts within 20% of what they claimed. In another test of the same study, 49% contained THC greater than the limit of quantification, with at least one testing as high as 3.1% THC per serving, likely enough for physical effects.1

Sadly, what you see isn’t always what you get.

CBD Certificate Analyses Are More Reliable Than Labels

Find companies that submit their products to 3rd-party lab testing facilities that can provide a CBD certificate analysis for each product. The certificate analysis is generally created for each batch produced, and it includes details about the contents of the product that are much more comprehensive than what is found on the label. The certificate analysis will include information such as cannabinoid and terpene content. In addition, the analysis reveals the contents of pesticides, heavy metals, and microbial contaminants that end up in the product as a result of production methods.

If the product label doesn’t match up to the CBD certificate analysis, this is a big red flag. It will be difficult to give yourself consistent doses if the product you use isn’t produced in a consistent manner. Quality control should never be out of control.
