Cannabidiol, CBD, has revolutionized the cannabis industry and the way we look at cannabis products. Refined from the hemp plant, CBD extracts are used to create CBD oil, providing an easy-to-use form of cannabidiol.
What Is CBD?
CBD is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. Cannabinoids are molecular compounds that interact with the Endocannabinoid System innate in the bodies of almost every animal.1 The Endocannabinoid System has shown evidence to modulate the following:
- Anxiety and stress1
- Inflammatory conditions1
- Neurodegenerative conditions1
- Pulmonary function1
- Cardiovascular function1
- Neuroinflammation (which has strong links to epilepsy)2
According to a 2020 Singlecare study, of people who have tried CBD, just under 50% of them are interested in trying CBD oils/CBD tinctures/CBD drops, which was the most popular category choice among people who have tried CBD.3
How To Use CBD Oils and CBD Tinctures
CBD oils and tinctures commonly come in a dropper bottle. One method of consumption is to take the desired dosage into the dropper and place it under the tongue. Allow it to absorb sublingually for thirty to sixty seconds before swallowing the remainder.
Many people love the natural taste of CBD hemp oils, particularly full-spectrum oils that contain aromatic terpenes, but everybody is different. If you fall into the category of people who are not a fan of the way cannabidiol oils taste, try blending it into a drink. This will dilute the taste and make it easier to consume. If you really want to hide the taste, choose a drink with a strong flavor profile, such as your morning coffee.
Another way to hide the taste is by creating your own CBD capsules from your hemp oil. Empty vitamin capsules are easily found online or at most supplement stores. Remember to measure out your desired dosage before filling up the capsule.
Which CBD Hemp Oil Should I Use?
There are a few different categories of hemp oils available.
Full-spectrum CBD oils contain not just CBD, but the full spectrum of compounds of the plant from which it was extracted, including other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. Full-spectrum hemp oils typically do contain THC. So long as THC levels are below 0.3%, you will not get high.
Broad-spectrum CBD oils contain not just CBD, but a broad spectrum of compounds of the plant from which it was extracted, including other cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. These do not always contain any amount of THC and may focus on a high percentage of another cannabinoid, in addition to CBD. Here is one that focuses on a 1:1 ratio of CBD to CBG, and another that has a 2:1 ratio of CBD to CBG.
CBD Isolate oils contain pure CBD isolate. They do not contain the spectrum of compounds of the plant from which it was extracted and instead focus on providing CBD.
CBD oil for dogs, cats, and horses is available for your fur-babies to enjoy. The Endocannabinoid System is present in nearly every animal.1 If you are able to find relief from CBD tinctures, you can now share it with your fur-family!
